Learn Tips To Be “Safer Offshore”
No skipper should take a vessel or crew onto the open ocean without the means to cope with the unthinkable. Ed Mapes catalogs solutions to real-life situations on the open ocean in his book “Safer Offshore.”
In this book, boaters learn about emergency communications, dealing with flooding or fire, repairing a faulty engine, coping with medical emergencies, helicopter evacuation, abandon ship techniques, surviving in the life raft, and much more.
Mapes is contributing editor for Sailing Magazine and the author of two books on offshore sailing, “Ready to Sail” and “Further Offshore.” He is a licensed Coast Guard Master and certified ASA instructor.

LED Reading Lamps Complement Interiors
A good reading lamp should incorporate eye-pleasing features, in both light intensity and overall style. Hella marine meets these needs with its Ponui LED series, which are also miserly on power to keep them cool to the touch in close quarters.
The energy-efficient Ponui LED Reading Lamps draw less than 0.8-watt each, yet offer intensity comparable to 10-watt incandescent lights.
The brass arm and knuckle offer adjustable swing and pitch. Dimming is achieved with a separate Hella marine two-group dimmer.
Finish options include bright chrome, satin nickel chrome or gold-plated brass. LED choices are white or warm white.
Suggested retail prices start at $253.33 for bright and satin chrome finishes, and $264.44 for gold-plated brass models.

New Half-Liter Carbon Canister
Perko and its emission system partner, Delphi, have introduced a new 1/2-liter carbon canister. This new EPA-certified canister has an overall length of just over 9 inches, essentially eliminating the problem of finding space for canisters on smaller boats.
This new canister is certified for use on tanks holding as much as 45 gallons of fuel for trailerable boats and up to 90 gallons for non-trailerable boats.
Perko has been manufacturing state-of-the-art fuel system components for boat owners and builders worldwide since 1936. It offers a wide range of canisters, fuel system valves, fills, vents and caps. More information on Perko’s Evaporative Emissions Control Systems, emissions regulations, requirements and solutions can be found at www.perkofuelsystems.com.

Wash Your Boat With Spot-Free Water
Washing a boat with hard water requires plenty of physical effort, great quantities of cleaning products and tons of time. After all that work, it also leaves water spots behind.
To help combat the effects of hard water, owners can remove residual hard water from paint, glass and other high-gloss or high-profile finishes with a final rinse from a water filtration system from CleaRinse.
This spot-free water is the result of a treatment process that removes, or greatly reduces, the dissolved solids from the incoming water supply. As the system purifies the water, it is collected in a holding tank or transferred into smaller holding tanks. A delivery pump is usually required.
Retractable Handle For Manual Toilets
Raritan now offers a new feature on its PHII and PHC manual toilets, setting it apart from the competition. A new retractable handle now enables owners to install the toilet in confined areas more easily.
Much simpler and cleaner than knob pumping, lever handle pumping also results in more powerful flushing action. The retractable handle is tough and will not break and its low friction makes for easier pumping.
The PHII and PHC offer long-term reliability with 1/4-turn dry pump valves and O-ring seals. An air vent reduces back pressure for trouble-free pumping in the “dry” position.
Both toilets offer a simple design for economical, trouble-free and quiet operation. Standard and household-size bowls are available for both models.
