Fortress “Complete” Anchor Systems

I sailed for years with a Fortress Anchor setup as a backup and ready stern anchor system on my Catalina 470 sloop. Whether used as a primary anchor or conveniently stowed backup, Fortress Marine Anchors are well-known for their holding capability. Now, the company is offering two of its popular models in convenient Complete Anchoring Systems, which include chain, shackle, and 25% more rope than the competition for safer sets and anchoring in deeper water.

Fortress anchors are made in the USA from rust-proof, marine-grade aluminum-magnesium alloy. They are incredibly lightweight, yet provide superior holding in many conditions compared to steel anchors weighing twice as much. Additionally, they are quick and easy to assemble and take apart for easy stowing.

Two large machined and sharpened flukes ensure that Fortress anchors set fast and deep. Unlike others, they can be adjusted from a 32-degree angle for use in sand and clay, to a 45-degree angle for soft mud. Unique “Mud Palms” are included with each set to optimize setting performance in problem soft bottoms.

The model FX-7 anchor (weighing only 4-lbs.) is for boats up to 27 feet. The model FX-11 (weighing 7-lbs.) accommodates vessels up to 32-feet in length. Both Complete Anchoring Systems include 15-feet of one quarter-inch proof coil chain, spliced to 250-feet of shock-absorbing three-eights-inch, three-strand nylon rope, and a quarter-inch shackle. The sets also include an informative “Safe Anchoring Guide.”

The Fortress FX-7 Complete Anchoring System retails for about $349.00, and the model FX-11 for $389.00. For more information visit

Pelican Products, Inc., global designer and manufacturer of high-performance protective cases and advanced portable lighting systems, has introduced their new rechargeable Pelican 3310R and 3310R-RA (right angle) LED flashlights.

Engineered to be the ultimate in handheld lighting, the new models boast a lighter, ultra-compact, IPX8 submersible polymer construction, and a “boost mode” (in addition to high, low, and flashing settings), which temporarily amps the light output to 1,067 lumens in the model 3310R, and 948 lumens in the 3310R-RA.

“When it comes to performance, the 3310R and 3310R-RA flashlights have set a new benchmark, offering a wide range of applications for our diverse group of users,” said Scott Jones, Director of Lighting Product Management, at Pelican.

The 3310R-RA model features a removable right angle adapter accessory with clip to provide hands free lighting, and an articulating head to direct light where needed. Both the 3310R and 3310R-RA flashlights feature a full-time battery level indicator, and efficient lithium ion rechargeable batteries that can provide clean brilliant light for up to 50 hours of use. Optional accessories for both lights include a holster, a helmet light holder, a vehicle charger, and a direct wire rig.

With an MSRP of $129.95 for the 3310R, and $149.95 for the 3310R-RA, these new additions to the lighting lineup come with Pelican′s lifetime guarantee. For more information or to find a retailer near you, visit

New “Patented” Raritan Macerator Pump

If you have ever disconnected a marine sanitation macerator pump for maintenance or repair you know what a noxious and dangerous mess it can make. Raritan Engineering′s 53101 Macerator Pump with Waste Valve pretty much eliminates this scenario, making servicing clean, quick, and easy.

The newly patented waste valve technical innovation isolates the impeller housing from the holding tank discharge port. To service the pump, it′s simply a matter of turning the waste valve lever to the closed position and separating the quick-disconnect assembly – no more hose clamps and brittle, leak-prone rubber couplings.

Of course, the model 53101 starts with Raritan′s reliable macerator pump, featuring a special nitrile rubber impeller that will run “dry” three times longer than the competition. Its spring-loaded Viton motor shaft seal reduces leakage, and the stainless steel fasteners and heavy-duty chopper ensure a long service life. The 53101 is available in 12V or 24V DC, and will discharge left, right or from the top.

Raritan Engineering has been manufacturing innovative and dependable marine products since 1958, and today provides a wide range of marine toilets, waste systems, icemakers, and water heaters.

The patented 12V model 53101 Macerator Pump with Waste Valve has a list price of $290.00. For more information visit
